I apologize in advance for a hideously self-centered post aimed purely at people who have played SRW Original Generations, which isn't going to be that many... Normal service will resume later!
And by that of course I mean that Original Generations is heeeeeeere! Wheeeeee~!
I've got some sneaking suspicions Banpresto have actually mastered the black magic and special powers that their characters use in game, because how you can fit all of THAT on a single-layer DVD amazes me. It must be compression... But from the SHADOW MIRROR universe.
Anyways Original Generations is excellent so far, I'm about on about stage 20 of OG1 (Doing it properly start t'finish now y'hear!) in Ryu's route. Everything's fine, it's definitely Original Generation, meaning it hasn't jarred or lost its soul during the graphical transition to AWESOME-level. Or at least, I don't think it has. Sure, some things have changed, and at last the characters who deserved their own BGMs get them!
I've recorded 'em all off the game and I can't stop listening to them, they're very good tunes; not rushed or hacked together. Each one is, I'd say, as good as all the classics like Trombe and Everywhere You Go... Maybe even a little better. Especially good is 'RUSHING DANDY' (Whatever one of those is) which is Kai's theme. I suppose Kai is pretty DANDY, if dandy means mustached.
I also love Ryuto/Rio's new theme, which is called 'RIGHT AND KIND', it's one lovely, lovely tune!
The graphics aren't the best, it's mostly single sprites that slide across the screen and produce rockets and bombs out of nowhere - after all, all the sprites are hand-made. WARNING, I am LYING! We all know OGs' graphics are the best Banpresto have ever done; take it away, Sanger!www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb1sIb…
(Incidentally was that a hip thrust as the hilt-guard thing opens? You know it was really!!
A sequence that blew me out of my bedroom and down the street was where the Kurogane and Hagane face off at the Divine Crusaders' HQ island. Kurogane's drill final attack has an absurd amount of cut-ins and explosions, with gunfire and technical-speak that makes me very excited. Hagane's retaliation is just as amazing, we see inside the ship go to red-alert and people working on the bridge, as well as a great cut-in of Daitetsu with his PIPE. Ahh, good times. You smoke that thing. But not in Britain; that's illegal.
EDIT: Actually here it is! www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RbrJh…
Anyways I'm happy with OGs, it's a tactical excitement-fest with shouting and all our favorite characters drawn and animated beautifully. Yay!
